Raw Seafood Related

Is frozen fish fresh?

Yes it is. Did you know that IQF (Individually Quick Frozen) seafood products are probably fresher than non-frozen seafood you buy at your local store? Why? Because "fresh" unfrozen seafood could be up to 4-6 days old by the time it gets through the supply chain and onto your table. Note: In most cases the cold chain management is not adequate which leads to the loss in quality or freshness of the seafood. Where the cold chain is adequately maintained at all times, and there is minimum exposure to air, un-frozen seafood can be kept fresh for 3-4 days without any significant decrease in quality.

IQF technology is the only process whereby virtually all the properties of food can be preserved. Slow or traditional freezing causes cellular damage and moisture loss. Quick freezing preserves the moisture and tissue hence preserving all the natural goodness. The logic is simple. The IQF process locks in all the freshness and natural goodness of our products for you to enjoy.

Our regional fish offerings are sourced from leading regional suppliers from around India. The fish are scaled, cleaned, gutted, cut, frozen to -24°C and vacuum sealed to maintain their quality. This vacuum sealing removes all contact with air and moisture from outside preserving the moisture within the fish and negating any effects of air-borne bacteria.

What is Individually Quick Frozen?

Individually Quick Frozen, commonly called IQF in the food industry, is when each individual piece of food is frozen separately from all the others. The way foods are frozen in the IQF method involves sending the individual food items into a blast-freezer that freezes the item very quickly. Because the food items are separate when they go in, they stay separate after they've been frozen. For example, a bag of prawns doesn't simply contain a solid block of frozen prawns, but each frozen prawn is separate inside the bag. Obviously, this makes IQF foods much easier to work with.

Are you expensive?

If you work it out, you'll actually find that we're very price competitive. When you buy "fresh" seafood at the market place, the fishmonger weighs the fish whole i.e. with head, tail and all. On average you will LOSE between 40-60% of the total weight purchased once you've cleaned the fish and made it ready to cook. And that doesn't account for the hassle of going to the market in the first place, bringing it home, cleaning/peeling/deveining and then, having to cook all of it immediately.

In a nutshell, here are your pure bang-for-buck benefits:

  • You saved yourself a trip to the fish market
  • You received fresher seafood from some of India's leading suppliers and export houses
  • Your cost per KG is the same or cheaper
  • You can defrost and cook only what you need, keeping the rest in your freezer for up to 1 month!

Is seafood healthy?

Yes it is. If you include one portion of seafood in your weekly diet, you may halve the chances of suffering a heart attack. Prawns, crabs, squid and octopus are just as packed with vitamins, minerals and fish oils as fish like salmon or cod. They all contain Omega-3 which is a key fatty acid known to help with heart health. Although seafood does contain cholesterol, it’s actually foods that are high in saturated fats – the type found in cheese, red meat and fast food – that increase levels of bad cholesterol in the body. So seafood is unlikely to have a major impact on your blood cholesterol levels.

Is your price based on weight?

Yes, all our base prices are calculated on a per Kg basis. 1/2 Kg packs are half the price of 1 Kg packs.

Is every item exactly 1/2 kg of 1 kg?

In cases where we can reasonably achieve an accurate packaging weight (e.g. prawns, crab meat, lobster meat, squid rings etc), yes the packaging is 1/2 or 1 kg. In the case of whole fish or even some fillets, the weight of each order will vary based on the size of the fish (for example one piece may be 800 gms while another may be 1.2 kg). In such cases we will always give you a callback to confirm the total weight, the number of pieces (if relevant) and the final cost of the order before we fulfill your order and send the package for shipment.

Are your prawns deveined?

Yes, our prawns are deveined. Only those prawns are undeveined if the product name says PUD - Peeled, Undeveined and Tail-Off. The other variety and the more common globally are termed PDTO - Peeled, Deveined and Tail-On. All our prawns, Medium and larger, are of these variety. PDTO is the form in which the large majority of prawns are processed in export factories across the world. Given that the process of leaving the tail-on, these prawns will usually have an extremely small piece of the vein left over under the tail.

Yes our prices are inclusive of taxes.

Packaged weight - Gross or Net?

To maintain the quality of our product we use very cold temperatures and to protect the products, at the time of processing, they are coated with a thin layer to water during the blast freezing process. This process is called glazing and Fishvish products are usually between 10 and 20% glazed. What this means to you, the consumer, is that if the gross weight of the product package is 1kg, the net or defrosted weight of the products will be between 800 to 900 grams.

How do I thaw your products?

Do you accept online payments?

Yes we do. We accept online payments made via Mastercard & Visa Credit & Debit Cards, Net Banking and UPI.

Heat & Eat Related

Is your food fresh?

Absolutely! These are frozen down to -24°C as soon as they cool down after cooking. They are as fresh as the minute they were made.

When was it packed?

We do not keep our products in the freezer beyond 6 days even though we have now tested them to be perfectly fine even after 1 month. We currently only cook and pack in small quantities and in most cases we do not have product that has been more than 2 days ago.

How do I thaw this?

Leaving it in the fridge overnight is the ideal scenario. However in a pinch, you can put the box in a plate of water to thaw. Microwaves all have a thaw option. We have tested on a few different models and usually 30 seconds to a minute with the setting on "THAW" works very well.

How much to heat it?

In a microwave for about 2-3 minutes usually will be enough per box, even 2 together. In a non-stick pan or skillet, 3-4 minutes on a medium heat will do it.

Are there any preservatives, artificial colours, msg, etc?

None whatsoever. We do not even use hydrongenated vegetable oil.

Are you registered with the food authoring/FDA/FSSAI?

Yes we are, our license number is the bottom right of every page of this website.

How long can it last frozen?

If you defrost please do NOT refreeze. If you place in your freezer when you receive it will be awesome up to 6 days. Well actually longer, but we think you wont be able to wait more than day to eat it all up.

How long can it last after thawing but in the fridge?

It can last up to 2 days in the fridge after thawing. If you heated all of it, then maybe longer than 1 day isnt advisable.

Raw Chicken Related

Is your Chicken fresh?

Absolutely! Our chicken is delivered everyday. As soon as we receive them, they are washed and vacuum sealed before being refrigerated and are always stored between 1° to 3° C

When was it packed?

Our chicken is never more than 24 hours old.

Why is there blood in your packages?

The "red juice" that you actually see is NOT blood at all. Most of the chickens' blood is removed during the gutting, cleaning and cutting process. Any that remains is usually contained inside the muscle tissue. The red liquid, is actually a mixture of a protein - myoglobin and water. The purpose of this protein is to ship oxygen to muscle cells. Myoglobin is very deeply pigmented, which is why the more myoglobin a meat contains, the darker (or redder) the meat usually is.

What do I do with this "red liquid"?

Just rinse under running water and it will be all gone.

Is your chicken Halal?

Yes, all our chicken products are halal.

How much to cook the meat?

The best way to know when the meat is cooked is to check internal temperature at the thickest part - 75°C for chicken or mutton is what it needs to be. Not all of us have food thermometers at home. Our Grills and Roasts products - Chicken - should be cooked for at least 20-25 minutes on a medium-high heat, turning 2-3 times in that time frame. Mutton needs a little longer, approximately 30-35 minutes. A lot of it depends on the size and cut of the meat too. Please do reads the instructions on each package for exact cooking times.
